A Message from the Crew Advisor
Welcome to the Crew 8880 web site. Do you want to take your Scouting
career to new heights? Does the idea of SCUBA diving in the
Caribbean, hiking for 100 miles in the Rocky Mountains or along the
Appalachian Trail and living off the land excite you? What about
learning to target shoot with a bit more firepower than just a 0.22
rifle? How about a 50-mile canoe trip through wild rapids or a trek
to Machu Picchu in the Andes? In Venturing you can make it happen and
you can gain credit toward your Eagle rank or various Venturing awards
beyond Eagle... and, you don't have to quit Scouting on your 18th
birthday, you can continue on until you are 21!
Crew 8880 is boy-run, so you if you can dream it, you can often live
the dream. Its up to you. Our Venturers are trained leaders,
seasoned Scouts with a useful skill set, but they are still learning
and enjoying through the Venturing program. Why not check out the
rest of this site and then come to one of our meetings to see if you
would like to join. Crew 8880 is affiliated with Troop 8880, Team 8880, as well as Cub
Pack 8880. We have it all. You and your other Scouting family
members can all participate in the Atlanta Area Council's premier boy-led Scouting programs at 8880.
Yours in Scouting,
Rob Michelson |
How to Join Crew 8880 |
|
All boys are welcome to join the adventure of Scouting. Scouting builds character and prepares young men for a life of leadership and community service. Venturing gives Scouts the ability to participate in high adventure activities that are not possible in the Boy Scouting program. Venturing, unlike other units such as Troop and Team, afford a Scout the opportunity to remain in a Scouting program beyond the age of 18. Although Venturing offers a number of exclusive awards which can be earned, it is also possible to count much of the Venturing experience toward Eagle advancement in a Troop. The Venturing and Scouting programs are not mutually exclusive.

Members involved in other BSA units must be in good standing to join the Venture Crew. Adult membership is open to all male adults over the age of 18 who are registered with the Boy Scouts of America as Venture Scouters. Visiting Crew 8880 |
To visit or join Crew 8880, please contact us using the "Contact Us" menu item above. Crew 8880 meets on the first Monday of every month at 7:30pm at Cherokee Presbyterian Church in Canton, GA.
A parent or guardian should accompany his/her son to a Crew meeting at the time the decision is made to join Crew 8880. A membership packet will be given to the parent for review and for completion of the necessary forms. The parent, with son, will meet with the Crew Advisor to discuss Crew 8880's Scouting program, guidelines, and procedures. The boy will not be permitted to participate in any Venturing function until he is properly registered and all his fees are paid. This is primarily because the Boy Scouts of America need to have a membership record in order to provide insurance coverage.
Parents or guardians are encouraged to contribute to the Crew and its activities in some way. Positions are available as Assistant Crew Advisors or Committee Members. Many resources and talents are required for a Crew to have a quality program, and each Scout's unique gifts add to the diversity and abilities of the Crew.

A Little About Our Crew |
Typically, the Crew has at least one meeting per month. Our program is as "event-based" as possible. Our Crew is "boy run", which means that the boys decide what they want to do and make it happen. The adults only help oversee and facilitate activities.
|
What if my son does not meet the requirements for Venturing at 8880? |
If your son is between ages 14 and 21, a Star Scout, and has completed the eighth grade, he is eligible for membership in Crew 8880, however if he has not quite met these requirements yet, please visit the Troop page for more information. Our Troop teaches the leadership skills necessary to get the most out of the Crew's high adventure program. There is, of course, no requirement to join Troop 8880 if you are already an active member of another local area Troop. Members of Crew 8880 can simultaneously be a member of another troop or even another crew.
If your son is under the age of 11, he would be eligible for membership as a Cub Scout. Pack 8880 would be happy to provide you with more information. Please visit the Cub Pack page for more information.
If your son is over the age of 14 and under the age of 18, he is eligible for membership in Team 8880. Please visit the Team page for more information. The Team provides options for young men who are looking for challenging sporting activities and still want to be a part of a Scouting program that offers the advancement opportunities and values of the Boy Scouts of America. |

Boy Scout Venturing Code |
|
| |
As a Venturer, I believe that America’s strength lies in our trust in God and in the courage, strength, and traditions
of our people.
I will, therefore, be faithful in my religious duties and will maintain a personal sense of honor in my own life.
I will treasure my American heritage and will do all I can to preserve and enrich it.
I will recognize the dignity and worth of all humanity and will use fair play and goodwill in my daily life.
I will acquire the Venturing attitude that seeks the truth in all things and adventure on the frontiers of our
changing world. |
